Lincoln Police, Lancaster County Sheriffs Office, and Marshals Fugitive Task Force members engaged in a several hour barricade engagement at a residence in the area of S. 12th and Hill Streets. Chief Deputy Ben Houchin said information was received that 24 year-old Gabriel Olivas, wanted on multiple warrants, was located in the area in a home he was not a tenant of.
According to LSO, Olivas was reported to have 4 misdemeanor arrest warrants, 1 for obstructing a peace officer and driving under suspension and 3 for theft by shoplifting (under $500), and 5 Lincoln police broadcasts, for a robbery that occurred two days prior on June 21st in the area of 21st and Washington Street, multiple for theft, and one for 3rd degree domestic assault, in which its reported that Olivas pushed an individual out of a vehicle attempting to evade police. A tactical response unit was activated due to a past history of violence and information indicating Olivas has possessed firearms in the past.
For several hours, surrounding streets have been blocked off and officers have been issuing orders for Olivas to exit the residence and turn himself over to law enforcement.
Thursday night, the evening prior, Olivas fled an attempt from LPD to make contact and struck multiple unmarked vehicles in doing so.
LSO indicated around 12:20 p.m. that the situation is all clear and Olivas has been taken into custody at this time.
A female individual in the residence wanted on local warrants and LPD broadcast for shoplifting was also taken into custody. Originally lying about her name, 39 year-old Sherry Thomas was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
