Today, Citizens for Voter ID’s petition circulators officially began gathering signatures to qualify a constitutional amendment which would require photographic identification for qualified voters to cast a ballot. This amendment will ensure that Nebraska’s elections stay free and fair while also ensuring that Nebraskans have confidence in the election process.

“Nebraskans want Voter ID and I’m proud to announce that our committee is officially in the field, working to deliver them the opportunity to vote on the issue directly.” said Senator Slama. “The people of Nebraska are often referred to as the second house and our committee is making sure that their voice is heard over those of the special interests with influence in the Capitol. We look forward to gathering signatures from all across the state over the coming months as we work toward collecting the required number of signatures to qualify for the November 2022 ballot.”

Anyone interested in signing the petition or volunteering to help circulate should follow Citizens for Voter ID on Facebook, contact info@citizensforvoterid.com, or visit www.citizensforvoterid.com.

The initiative process requires 10% of the registered voters in the state at the filing deadline by July 8, 2022. Additionally, signatures must be collected from 5% of the registered voters in 38 of the 93 Nebraska counties. As of August 1, 2021 there are 1,241,358 registered voters, requiring 124,136 signatures if the petition signatures were submitted today.
