Lincoln Police were called to the 1700 block of N 27th Street around 9 p.m. on Wednesday, August 4th on a report of gunfire. Police spoke with two men who said they were driving through an alley and someone shot at them. They told officers they were in the area to pick up some people and thought they were targeted as they were familiar with people outside at the time. Officers found several shell casings but there was no damage or injuries. The men also told officers they planned to handle the situation themselves and they owned firearms.

Just after midnight on Thursday, August 5th, one of the men who had been shot at called police to say he was chasing a vehicle he believed was responsible. He also told officers they had fired shots at him and his passenger again near 17th and W Street. He continued to provide updates to the dispatcher who told them to stop the chase. Officers then saw a speeding Cadillac Escalade believed to be chasing the other vehicle.

At 17th and Benton, officers spoke with 26 year old Charles Pate and 46 year old Michael Nunn in the SUV. They reported they saw a white Buick with two people inside fire a gun a them at 27th and W. Police saw a loaded handgun on the dashboard and ammunition that matched in Pate’s pocket.

The Buick was found by officers about a half hour later at 10th and Hartley. A 52 year old man and a 41 year old woman said they were leaving a restaurant and a white Escalade started chasing them. At 27th and W, they heard what they thought was gunfire. Officers did not find firearms or ammunition in the Buick or on either person. They believed they were targeted by Nunn and Pate as they were associates of the people involved in the shooting on N 27th Street.

Nunn and Pate were both booked for terroristic threats. The investigation continues and anyone with information is encouraged to call Lincoln Police at 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
