For a second straight week Bluestem Lake in Lancaster County remains under a health alert for Harmful Algal Blooms, also known as toxic blue-green algae.
Samples taken earlier this week at the lake measured above the threshold for a toxin released by certain strains of blue-green algae. During the alert swimming are closed but recreational boating and fishing will be permitted.
People are advised to avoid exposure to the water and not let their pets in the water or drink from the lake. Public areas for camping, picnics and other outdoor activities can still be used.
