Nebraska has been ranked the 21st overall best state for working dads according to a WalletHub Study comparing the 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia across 23 key indicators of friendliness toward working dads
Ahead of Fathers Day weekend, statistics show that 93.7% of married dads reported active employment last year compared to 71.1% of married moms. Examples of metrics which were analyzed to derive these rankings include the presence of parental leave policies, the share of physically active men, quality of local school systems, male life expectancy, and more.
Nebraska came in above average, landing an score of 52.82. More specifically, Nebraska ranked 19th in Health. This category considers factors such as men’s life expectancy, mental health and suicide rates, and affordability of doctor’s visits. In Child Care, Nebraska landed at 27th, this category focuses on the quality, availability, and affordability of child care services in the state. Nebraska’s lowest ranking metric is 40th overall in Work-Life Balance. It can’t be ignored that Nebraska has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country, but for this metric WalletHub considers factors like average length of work days, average commute time, and parental-leave policy scores.
Nebraska’s highest ranking metric was Economic & Social Well-Being, being ranked in 13th place. This metric analyzes things like median family income, unemployment rates (which as mentioned, are remarkably low in NE), and high school graduation rates.
