The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Department is urging residents to lock their cars, not leave valuables in vehicles and to keep garage doors shut. Chief Deputy Ben Houchin says the warning comes on the heels of ten recent vehicle break-ins in Hickman.

“Two of them the car was locked, but there were valuables inside, and they broke the windows.  The other ones there were purses, credit cards and checkbooks and the doors were unlocked.”

Houchin says says a $35,000 Audi was stolen from a garage with the key fob still inside of it.  “It was about 3:30 a.m. and they hear their dogs going crazy and they look out and the car was backing up out of the driveway.

Houchin says they found the car abandoned a few blocks away but the suspects still have the key fob.
