Lincoln Fire and Rescue crews battled a two alarm fire at the Southwood Village Apartments near 27th and Nebraska Parkway Monday morning. Battalion Chief Bob Watton says there was heavy smoke and flames coming from the complex when they arrived around 10:45 a.m.
“It was a fairly large fire that was on the first floor that was getting up into the second floor and was breaching into the attic when we arrived.” Watton says they were able to quickly get water on the fire and prevent it from reaching the attic and preventing further damage.
“Fortunately we have a station close by that we were able to get it under control fairly quickly,” Watton says. LFR crews helped evacuate some of the residents and pets. No one was injured.T
hree of the ten units received the most damaged and those residents have been displaced. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
