Lincoln Police were called to the area of 17th and P Street around 4:30 Wednesday afternoon after someone saw a man take a hammer out of
his jacket and smash an ATM before walking away.
LPD Sergeant Chris Vollmer says officers found 37 year old Jeremy Pickinpaugh a couple blocks away and he still had the hammer. “He refused to comply with the officers’ commands and began walking away. A taser was deployed but was unsuccessful,” Vollmer says.
After a short foot chase Pickinpaugh was arrested. Once he was placed in handcuffs Vollmer says Pickinpaugh swung his elbow and struck one of the officers in the face causing a minor injury.
Pickinpaugh was arrested for 3rd degree assault on an officer and criminal mischief. He was also cited & released for obstructing a peace officer. Damage to the ATM was estimated at $5,000.
