A beautiful Thursday evening saw Nebraska baseball rain on Purdue’s chances at the Big Ten Tournament.

The Huskers, already in the league tournament, took game one of the series 10-5. The Boilermakers needed to sweep the series in order to control their destiny and qualify.

The teams were tied 2-2 after three innings, but Nebraska scored eight runs over the final three frames to pull away for the victory.

Emmett Olson got the start, throwing just 65 pitches over 4.0 innings to stay fresh for Omaha next week. He struck out five while giving up two runs on five hits.

Corbin Hawkins pitched the next 2.0 innings to earn the win.

NU managed 12 hits on the day, including a trio of home runs from Max Anderson, Gabe Swansen, and Charlie Fischer.

Those homers give Big Red 93 for the school season, tying the record set by the 1985 team.

Brice Matthews was absent from the game with back tightness. He is on the trip and could still play this weekend.

Game two is set for 12 p.m. CDT Friday.
