Fallen LSO Deputy Honored At National Memorial Service

By Tom Stanton May 15, 2023 | 8:42 AM

A National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Service is being held on the south lawn of the U-S Capitol on Monday.   Lancaster County Sheriff’s Deputy Troy Bailey, who died of a heart attack on September 11, 2020, will have his name added to the memorial wall.

The names of more than 23,000 officers who have been killed or died in the line of duty are engraved on that wall.  Sheriff Terry Wagner and several deputies made the trip to Washington D.C. for the service.

“The memorial service is very honorable, it’s very well done,” Wagner says.  “It will be a chance to honor those family members and co-workers that have passed.”

Governor Jim Pillen, in accordance with a request from the White House, has announced that all U.S. and Nebraska flags are to be flown at half-staff on Monday, May 15  in honor of Peace Officers Memorial Day.

Flags are to be flown at half-staff from dawn until sunset on Monday, May 15, 2023.
