Lancaster County Sheriff’s deputies were sent to Firth on Tuesday night after two juveniles were seen putting a large piece of metal on the BNSF railroad tracks near the grain elevators.

Chief Deputy Ben Houchin says the train engineer saw the juveniles put the object on the track. “The train did hit it and made it rock, to the point they were concerned it could derail. That could have been a horrible accident.”

Houchin says they weren’t able to catch the offenders and deputies were not able to find the metal object that was struck.  He’s urging anyone with information about the incident to call them at 402-441-6500.
