Thousands Of Nebraskans To Receive TurboTax Settlement Checks

By Tom Stanton May 10, 2023 | 2:56 PM

Attorney General Mike Hilgers says Nebraska and several other states have reached a $141 million settlement with Intuit, TurboTax’s producing software company, claiming it promised free federal tax preparation services but ended up charging consumers for the service.

There were 4.4 million people nationwide impacted.  Hilgers says Nebraska will receive $837,114 for more than 27,300 consumers who were tricked into paying to file their federal tax returns from 2016-18. He says those consumers were eligible to file for free through the IRS Free File Program.

Eligible consumers will be contacted by email about the settlement and checks will be mailed through the end of May.  Eligible Nebraskans will receive an e-mail about their settlement.

Consumers are expected to receive a direct payment of approximately $30 for each year that they were deceived into paying for filing services.  Click here for more details.
