The Malone Center at 22nd and U Street will hold a BBQ-Game Night Community Event from 6 until 8:30 p.m. Thursday, July 22nd.

There will be free childcare, free food, music and tournament games of basketball, cards, dominoes and chess with prizes awarded to the winners.

Director of Community Engagement Ishma Valenti says the event has several goals. One is to increase police officers’ positive perception of individuals in communities. He says, “I think it is a big thing for police and the community to come together in situations that are not law enforcement situations or tragic situations but come together doing normal things like a hang out or a cookout where people are getting to know one another. We will have the community playing games. Officers playing games and hanging out person to person. What the community needs is more positive relationships”.

Valenti hopes this is the first of many similar events and they hope to hold several every year.

Lincoln Police adds they are excited to attend this event and are grateful to the Malone Center for their generosity and hospitality in hosting this event.
