A 16 year old is being credited for saving the life of a seven year old autistic boy who ended up in a pond around 8:15 Sunday night.  LPD Officer Luke Bonkiewicz says the boy wandered away from an adult family in the 16oo block of Hartland Road, near the Loren Eiseley Branch Library.

He says as family members searched the neighborhood for the boy,  he was in the middle of the pond and struggling to stay above water.  A 16 year old boy, who was in the area, saw the child, jumped into the water and pulled him back to shore.

He says an adult who saw the rescue came out with a towel.   Officers say they when they arrived they immediately found the boy’s family as they searched for him. Bonkiewicz says no citations were issued.  Officers spoke to the family about Project Lifesaver, a small transmitter that can track children who are prone to wandering.
