The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office says a pair of pinging AirPods helped them track down a pair of suspects wanted in a series of recent thefts in Malcolm and Milford.

Lancaster County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Ben Houchin says over the weekend two unlocked cars and a garage were broken into and a number of items were taken, including a purse, credit cards, tools, softball equipment and cash.   He says ten other similar cases were reported by Milford Police and included a pair of stolen AirPods.

A surveillance video in Malcolm captured a red sedan with in-transit stickers. Houchin says Lincoln Police were alerted that the AirPods were pinging at an apartment complex near 24th and E Streets.

He says one of their investigators went to that address.  “He sees the sedan, people get in it and he tries to stop them.  They flee and he does not chase.”  Houchin says they received another call from Milford Police that the AirPods were pinging at another residence near 26th and P Streets.

Undercover deputies went to the home and served a search warrant.  Houchin says the stolen AirPods and a stolen gun were found.  36 year old Nicole Jensen was arrested for possessing a stolen weapon.

A search warrant was also served on the apartment at 24th and E Streets and they found more stolen, including a revolver, and some meth.  32 year old Gary Winchel, Jensen’s boyfriend, was arrested on suspicion of possession of meth.

Houchin says the investigation into the thefts continues and he says there could be additional charges.
