Boy Scouts Cornhusker Council, like many other organizations, had a tough time during the pandemic fundraising and recruiting new members. Assistant Scout Executive Jason Anderson tells LNK Today they were creative during the pandemic and offered backyard camping trips and held a lot of activities virtually. They are now ready to put that behind them and have come up with a fundraising effort that is literally “Over The Edge”.

Anderson says they wanted something fun so came up with the “Over The Edge” plan, a chance to rappel down the side of the Cornhusker Marriott. He says, “People will either donate or raise $1,000 for the opportunity to go “Over The Edge”. On August 6th, they will have 92 people that will go “Over The Edge” with us.”

People will put on a harness and have control of their six floor descent or they can let the company, Over the Edge take control. Anderson says it is safe and an exciting adventure that you can’t do everyday. They are also running a special promotion where you can “Toss your Boss” and officers and businesses are encourage to collect funds so your boss can make the journey.

On August 5th, local dignitaries will take the leap followed by 92 others on August 6th.

Anderson says, “Fundraising is a very important part of what we do. It helps operate Camp Cornhusker down by Humboldt, Nebraska and our outdoor education center right here outside of Lincoln. Between those two properties we have about 500 acres of outdoor, education space for Scouts to learn about the outdoors, the environment, all the great things about scouting. The funding is really important to help us provide great programs to deliver to our Scouts.”
