Father And Son Fight Arrest

By Karla James Jul 13, 2021 | 11:12 AM

A man wanted on a federal warrant put up quite a fight that landed with him and his father behind bars.

On July 12th at 8:30 a.m., Federal Immigration officers were at 37th and Cornhusker attempting to arrest 23 year old Balmore Hernandez-Castro. When officers found Castro in a vehicle, he kicked and punched at the officers and bit one of them on the arm. Immigration officers then called Lincoln Police to assist due to the violent resistance.

As the fight continued, another man with Castro pulled on the officer’s head and stomped on his hand several times to get it away from Castro. Both Castro and the other man continued to punch and kick at officers as Lincoln Police arrived. With several officers attempting to gain control of the man, Castro continued to violently struggle and assault officers. After several warnings and attempts to de-escalate the situation, a taser was used on Castro. He and the other man, 43 year old Santos Hernandez, were taken into custody. He is Castro’s father.

The officers suffered abrasions, lacerations, bruising, swelling and a significant bite. Castro was examined at a local hospital due to the taser deployment.

Castro and Hernandez were both arrested for two counts of assault on a police officer and for resisting arrest. Castro was also arrested for the federal warrant.
