Nebraskans are paying more to fill up their vehicles. “We’re about $3.50 on average across the state,” says AAA Nebraska’s Brian Ortner. “We’re 16 cents higher than a week ago, we’re 24 cents higher than a month ago.”
The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline rose nine cents since last week to hit $3.64. Ortner says the main culprit is the high cost of oil, gasoline’s main ingredient, which is hovering in the low $80s per barrel.
Ortner says the higher pump prices were also impacted by OPEC’s surprising decision last week to cut production and the demand for gas.
