Lincoln Police held a Gun Amnesty drive-up event on Saturday morning. LPD Public Information Officer Erika Thomas says during the two hour event they collected 35 guns along with thousands of rounds of ammunition.
“There was a variety of handguns, rifles and other sorts of weapons that were all turned over,” Thomas says. “Any guns that are determined to be stolen will be turned over to their rightful owner and all other guns are destroyed per ATF guidelines.”
LPD also partnered with Hope LNK suicide prevention organization to pass out more than 90 gun lock boxes and more than 90 cable locks.
