Driver Of Stolen Car Runs After Crashing Into Lincoln Man’s Pickup

By Tom Stanton Apr 4, 2023 | 12:15 PM

Lincoln Police say a man ended up in the hospital after his pickup truck was hit by a stolen car Monday morning. Captain Todd Kocian says the 51 year old man was driving near North 27th and Old Dairy Road around 7:00 a.m.

The man told police he was southbound on 27th Street through a green light and was hit by another vehicle. “Witnesses reported a gold 2010 Honda Accord and a red Ford Focus exited onto North 27th Street from a private drive on the east side of North 27th Street,” Kocian says.  “As the vehicles entered the southbound lanes, the gold Honda struck the victims vehicle.”

The driver of the gold Honda got out and ran southbound from the scene. The red Focus also left the scene and continued southbound.  Kocian says they learned that the gold Honda had been reported stolen on March 28 from a home near Lewis Avenue and Superior Street.  That same morning the Ford Focus was stolen from a home near 7th & Superior.

Kocian says both vehicles were stolen after being left running and unattended to warm up.  “We would like to remind everyone to please not leave your vehicles unlocked, unattended and running as it only takes a second for someone to drive off in your vehicle,” Kocian says.

The 51-year-old victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.  The investigation is continuing and anyone with information is encouraged to call the Lincoln Police Department at 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
