For the 13th straight year the People’s City Mission is teaming up with Cornhusker Bank to collect new and gently used shoes for people in need.  Pastor Tom Barber says it means a lot to the people they serve to have proper footwear.

“Last year they raised over 30,000 pairs of shoes and we were able to give them all away in 3-4 weeks.”    Barber says there are more than 100 barrels located at various locations around the city where shoes can be dropped through April 15.

They will then be sorted and distributed by the end of the month.  On Wednesday Barber, bank officials and community leaders will walk from the Cornhusker Bank headquarters at 84th and O Street to the People’s City Mission Help Center at 68th and P Street to illustrate the impact a pair of shoes can have on a person’s life.

In the first 12 years More than 235,000 thousand pairs of shoes have been collected.
