An 18 year old ended up in jail after fleeing from a Lancaster County Sheriff’s Deputy just before 10:00 Friday night. Chief Deputy Ben Houchin says the deputy spotted a Mercedes in Wilderness Park after hours and the driver took off at a high rate of speed.
“Got to 27th and Superior and turned and went west. The deputy did call a pursuit and at 14th and Saltillo it was called off because the speeds were way to high,” Houchin says.
Houchin says the deputy was able to get the license plate number and that led them to the home of the registered owner. The teen’s father told the deputy that his son had the car.
As the deputy was talking to the father, Houchin says the man’s son arrived. “He walked up, we made contact with him and he admitted that he was driving and ran because he didn’t want to get a ticket or go to jail.”
Houchin says that is exactly what happened. He was taken to the Lancaster County Jail and booked for flight to avoid arrest and failure to signal.
