Lincoln Police have arrested a 32 year old man in connection with the death of a 22-month-old child.  LPD said Friday afternoon that the on Sunday March 12 around 4:20 p.m. officers were called to St. Elizabeth Hospital on a report of a child being seen for injuries consistent with
abuse.

The child was then transported to Children’s Hospital in Omaha for a higher level of care.  LPD says the child died of his injuries late Friday morning.  The investigation led them to the home of 32 year old Joshua Tackett near 7th and G Street.

During the execution of a search warrant, investigators located a firearm in the house, but Tackett was not there.  Tackett was contacted at a residence near South 10th & Peach Street on March 14th and he was taken into custody and arrested for possession of a firearm by a Prohibited Person.

A few hours after his arrest LPD says the child was pronounced dead. Tackett was contacted at the Lancaster County Jail where
he remained in custody for the weapons violation and was arrested for child abuse resulting in death.  Police have not said what the connection is between Tackett and the child.

“We would like to extend our condolences to the family members of the victim and ask the public to respect their privacy as they grieve the loss of their loved one,” LPD said in a statement.

The investigation is ongoing, and police encourage anyone with information about this incident to call 402.441.6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402.475.360
