Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird picked up the endorsement of the local firefighters union on Thursday. Adam Schrunk is president of the Lincoln Firefighters Association and says Gaylor Baird has invested in making sure they have the resources they need.
“Mayor Gaylor Baird has been there for firefighters and their families in her first term. When it comes to public safety, she has invested in making sure we have resources we need to keep Lincoln safe.”
Schrunk says Gaylor Baird delivered on her promise during her first term, which includes investments in building new and renovating existing fire stations, purchasing for future fire stations, replacing LFR’s fleet of fire trucks and engines and putting an eighth medic unit into service.
Mayor Gaylor Baird says public safety will continue to be her top priority and she will continue to invest in personnel, facilities and equipment. “I am committed to upholding our obligation to fund their pension, maintain our fire stations, and provide them with the resources and staffing levels they need to continue to deliver the highest level of service to our community.”
Schrunk says the union spoke with two candidates for mayor before making their decision. He says Gaylor Baird and Suzanne Geist were the only ones to go through their interview process.
