March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month and the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department is reminding residents age 45 and older to get screened.
Colon cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related death in Lancaster County. “Colon cancer can be prevented with regular screenings and is highly treatable when detected early. If you are 45 years old or older, the time to get screened is now,” says Health Director Pat Lopez.
The department partners with the Lancaster County Crusade Against Colon Cancer, Nebraska Cancer Coalition and local pharmacies to offer free colon cancer screening kits to residents age 45 to 74. The screening kits are easy to use with no preparation needed and can be done in the privacy of your own home.
