Lincoln Police arrested a man on Wednesday sitting behind the wheel of a vehicle.   LPD says just after 6:00 p.m. officers responded to a report of a person apparently passed out in a vehicle near the intersection of North 1st Street and Cornhusker Highway.

When officers arrived they found a vehicle stopped in the outside lane of North 1st Street, between Cornhusker Highway and Dawes Boulevard.  Officers observed that the vehicle’s license plates had expired in November of 2020.  Officers contacted the driver, identified as 38 year old Daniel Hampton, and says the handle of what was later determined to be an 18-inch machete concealed near the driver’s side of the vehicle.

During an additional search of the vehicle officers located an Oxytocin pill, multiple used syringes and a metal spoon containing a substance that pre-tested positive for Fentanyl.  Police say Hampton showed signs of impairment, including slurred speech and general disorientation.  With the assistance of a drug recognition expert,  officers continued the investigation and determined that Hampton was under the influence of a controlled substance.

Hampton refused to provide a blood or urine sample for analysis.  Officers cited and booked Hampton for Felony Possession of Controlled Substance, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, DUI, Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test and No Valid Registration.
