Two women are facing charges in connection with a series of shoplifting cases in Lincoln. Police were first called on January 31st to Menards at 3500 N 27th Street on a shoplifting call. When officers arrived, they contacted the loss prevention employee who reported that the previous evening two women came into the store and filled a cart with various items totaling around $1,400.
They attempted to pay for the items, but their payment method continued to get denied as the wrong PIN was being used. When questioned, police say the women said they were going to put a few items back but instead fled out of the store without paying.
Police received information on June 12th that the two responsible were 40-year-old Alisha Wilson and 30-year-old Morgan Newsom. Officers and a loss prevention employee were able to positively identify these women as being responsible for the theft.
On June 21st an investigator contacted Newsom who was incarcerated in Kansas and interviewed her. Newsom was arrested for felony Theft by Shoplifting in this case as well as six more counts of felony Theft by Shoplifting for crimes at Hy-Vee on November 25, 2020, Orscheln’s on January 5, 2021, Hobby Lobby on January 7, 2021, Walmart on January 10, 2021, Walmart of January 17, 2021, and Walmart on April 9, 2021.
On June 22nd around 5pm an officer observed Wilson in the area of 40th and Saint Paul and tried to contact her. LPD says she got into a car and fled from the officers, but they did not pursue her. An officer located her in the area of 61st and Havelock approximately 15 minutes later walking away from the vehicle.
When the officer attempted to stop her again, she tried to run away. The officer was able to catch up to her, but she put up a fight. After a struggle, the officer was able to take Wilson into custody. She was arrested for Flee to Avoid Arrest in a Motor Vehicle, Resisting Arrest and Theft by Shoplifting.
