Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird announced Tuesday that LPD’s Special Victims Unit completed its relocation into the BraveBe Child Advocacy Center. The office began its duties in the new location on Feb. 2. The move enables SVU investigators to work directly with the advocacy center’s specialists in the interest of child welfare.
The new facilities include improved medical and mental health services, training and prevention capabilities, and a triage space for children waiting to be placed in foster care. LPD Chief Teresa Ewins praised the opportunity to work closely with BraveBe, saying that the partnership allows swift action from the SVU in child abuse investigations, sexual assault, domestic violence, and human trafficking cases.
“The Lincoln Police Department is your partner in this journey,” said Ewins. “It is our collective vision for BraveBe to pursue justice for our children and get them the greatest care,” Chief Ewins said. “I look forward to our future to provide all young people that walk through these doors to this ‘Little Yellow House’ with the ‘Room to Heal’ to be served at the highest level of care possible.”
