Lincoln Man Sentenced To Prison For Possessing Machine Gun

By Tom Stanton Feb 6, 2023 | 12:20 PM

A 24 year old Lincoln man is headed to prison after being sentenced on drug and weapons charges.  United States District Judge John M. Gerrard sentenced Alejandro Alvarado to 17 years in federal prison.

Alvarado admitted to trafficking guns, including Glock switches intended to convert handguns into fully automatic machine guns from Kansas to Nebraska.  The investigation revealed that one of those guns ended up in the hands of a Trip Set gang member, and ballistics identified that handgun was used in a Lincoln homicide.

Prosecutors say Alvarado was also conspiring with others to do home invasions in Lincoln.  When he was arrested, Alvarado was in possession of a machine gun, marijuana and M30 pills that contained fentanyl.

There is no parole in the federal system. After his release from prison, Alvarado will begin a five-year term of supervised release.  The case was investigated by the FBI and Lincoln Police Department.
