Students of all ages across Lincoln spoke and sang at the 28th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Youth Rally and March on Monday morning. Hosted at the UNL campus, audience members were treated to public speakers and choirs of kids from a wide variety of backgrounds.
Peter Ferguson, the event’s coordinator and advisor, told KLIN News that the day is meant to be the start of something much bigger. “The day is supposed to be a catalyst for so much more,” Ferguson said. “The content of their message, the steps that we need to still take for various things, for people to have equity, for people to have opportunity, but also to celebrate where we’ve come from.”
Ferguson said that while the adults were there in an advisory capacity, the day ultimately belonged to the students.
