As of 1 PM on Tuesday, temperatures have reached into the 50s. This unusually spring-like weather has sent many Lincoln residents to golfing. Denis Vontz, Director of Golf at Highlands Golf Course, tells KLIN News they’ve been busy this early part of the week, and there will be more golfers on the way before the weekend hits.

“We did about 90 players yesterday. Today, we’ve got about 110 on the books, so we’re going to be getting some extra rounds in,” said Vontz.

Vontz says that many golfers, both members and non-members, are playing full 18-hole games. “We have a short window. Usually, we have frost until about 10 or 10:30. If they want to play 18, they’ve got to tee off by 1:30 or 1:45. We don’t have a big window there to get many people around to 18.

So, we’re usually jam-packed through that timeframe.”

January is not usually a busy time for a golf course in an area with cold winter conditions, but Highlands has been maintaining their grass throughout the winter, allowing residents to reap the benefits of this week’s warmth. With the exception of Thursday and Friday, highs should remain in the 40s and 50s through the weekend.
