The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office participated in the nationwide Drive Sober or Get Pulled over enforcement effort to crackdown on drunk driving. Deputies conducting saturation patrols on various nights from December 16 through January 1.

Deputies stopped 206 vehicles and issued 77 official citations, 246 warning/defect cards and made three criminal arrests.  One person was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

Additional deputies were on duty to run traffic on an individual basis. Their efforts were concentrated on the detection of alcohol impaired drivers and other alcohol related violations.

Official citations included 51 speeding, two driving during suspension, one driving while intoxicated, 12 registration and insurance violations, two seatbelt violations, one provisional operator’s permit violation and 8 various traffic law violations.

There were two criminal arrests for possession of a controlled substance and one for criminal impersonation.     Overtime compensation for the additional deputies working during the crackdown was paid through a mini-grant funded by the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office.
