A monster fourth quarter helped Nebraska women’s basketball reach a sizeable milestone.
The Huskers took advantage of a 20-5 final frame to pull away for the 66-39 victory Sunday afternoon at Pinnacle Bank Arena. The win is No. 500 at home in program history.
Nebraska began the game with a 7-0 run, all from Alexis Markowski. But Wyoming scratched back to trail by just three after the first quarter, then just seven at the half.
A few minutes into the third quarter, the Cowgirls made back-to-back 3s to pull within four points. But it would be all Huskers from there.
Nebraska closed the quarter on a 12-4 run before running away in the fourth quarter for the victory.
The Huskers shot 50 percent from the field, including 5-of-15 from 3.
Markowski led all scorers with 22 points, including making 4-of-5 triples. She completed the double-double with 10 rebounds, and tied for the lead with three blocked shots.
Allison Weidner also reached double-figures with 13 points.
Just 10 days after her freshman season with Nebraska volleyball finished, Maggie Mendelson made her Nebraska women’s basketball debut. The 6’5 product from Utah played in just 10 minutes, but racked up nine points, three rebounds, and three blocked shots.
On each blocked shot, portions of the PBA crowd could be seen chanting “roof roof roof”, the crowd chant utilized after Husker volleyball blocks at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
Nebraska stays home Wednesday to face former Big 12 foe Kansas. The Jayhawks are undefeated and ranked No. 22.
