Lincoln’s Center for People in Need is running its annual Toyland program this weekend into the week, from Saturday Dec. 10 through Tuesday, Dec. 13.  The campaign’s aim is to give children toys so that they have at least one wrapped gift to open for Christmas Day. Macala Carter, the organization’s Executive Director, tells KLIN News that they’ve seen a month-over-month increase in children in need.

“We’re expecting to see around 5,000 children that will be coming through,” says Carter. “Our goal is to be able to provide families at least one gift.”

Carter tells KLIN News that they have enough gifts for the 5,000 children, but they do welcome more donations, especially for older children. Residents interested in volunteering their time to give children presents can sign up for available slots. As of KLIN News’ conversation with Carter, slots were available on Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 12 and 13, respectively. Call the Center for People in Need at 402-476-4357 for more information.
