Lincoln Police arrested a 14 year old boy after they say he brought a loaded gun to North Star High School in a backpack on Monday.  Captain Todd Kocian says around 9:30 a.m. the School Resource Officer was contacted by LPS Security.

“The investigation revealed that shortly after arriving for school, the student was sent to the office for an unrelated matter.  Before arriving at the office, he placed the backpack outside where a staff member found it a short time later.”

The backpack was over to security who found a loaded Taurus 9mm handgun inside.  The gun was reported stolen from a vehicle on November 13th near NW 13th & West Saunders.

Kocian says Personal belongings in the backpack led the officer to contact the 14 year old, who denied being aware the handgun was in the backpack.  There were no threats of violence to students or staff.

The teen was arrested and booked at the Lancaster County Youth Services Center for possession of a firearm in a school and possession of a stolen firearm and will be facing school consequences as well.
