Lincoln Police say two women had their wallets stolen over the weekend their credit cards used to make thousands of dollars in fraudulent purchases. The first incident happened around 7:20 Saturday night at the Walmart at 87th and Highway 2.
The 75-years-old victim said she said she returned to her vehicle after shopping when an unknown woman approached her vehicle. “The suspect told the victim somebody had punctured one of her tires and recommended she check all her tires,” Captain Todd Kocian says. “She exited her vehicle and observed the suspect holding a push pin saying it was stuck in her tires. As the victim checked her tires, she noted the female suddenly disappeared.”
Kocian says she had left her drivers door open, got back into her vehicle and left. Her purse had been left on the front seat and she did not realize her credit cards were stolen until she got home. She called her credit card company and found eight unauthorized transactions totaling $7,769.77 had already occurred.
On Sunday at 11:30 a.m. police were called to the Super Saver Store at 5440 South 56th on a report of a theft. The 64 year old victim says she was shopping inside the store when she noticed her wallet was missing from her purse. A short time later the victim discovered 4 fraudulent transactions on her credit cards totaling $7,133.33.
These investigations are ongoing and anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Lincoln Police Department at 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
