Lincoln Police were called to a home in the 500 block of E Hillcrest Drive around 8 p.m. on Wednesday to investigate a weapons violation. The caller stated her son had discharged a firearm inside the home. The gun was then locked up.
Officers found that the teenager had used the handgun to shoot the family cat. The one-year old cat died from the injuries. Officers then learned the boy stole the firearm from a friend’s house about a month and a half earlier. The identifying numbers on the firearm had been scratched off.
The 15 year old was referred for possession of a defaced firearm, possession of a stolen firearm and for intentionally cruelly mistreating an animal. He was turned over to staff at the Youth Assessment Center. Animal Control was notified and will be assisting with the investigation.
