Since 1907, the People’s City Mission has helped those in need. In 2022, it will continue to do so.
This Thanksgiving, the People’s City Mission seeks to feed up to 4,000 people either directly or through meal donations. First, the city’s homeless community will gather on the morning of Thanksgiving Day for a delicious turkey lunch. In addition to that, the Mission will give out turkey and all the fixings to those who aren’t homeless, but who need a helping hand.
There are ways to take part, too. Anyone who wants to donate turkeys, pies, or ingredients for side dishes to the People’s City Mission can do so by calling 402-475-1303. Turkeys can be dropped off at the Mission at 110 Q St or at the Help Center on 1600 P St. Donations should be made no later than Nov. 11.
It’s also possible to volunteer for Thanksgiving Day itself. Those who wish to volunteer can create an account at the People’s City Mission website. Creating an account is needed to sign up for shifts.
The shelter usually has about 100 volunteers, and it greatly appreciates the community effort. Those who volunteer can also do so and make it home in time for their own Thanksgiving meals. Volunteers usually arrive at 10:30 or 11 and stay until 1 or 1:30.
