The Lancaster Board of Commissioners gathered on the morning of Nov. 1 and recognized first responders and everyday citizens who responded to oct. 23’s fires. Those on the board made statements expressing their gratitude.

“We are fortunate enough to live in this great country, in this great county, and this great community,” began Commissioner Rick Vest. “And the reason that it’s so great is because we care so much about one another, and we have a commitment to do what’s right during the most difficult of times. You all are living demonstrations of that caring and commitment, and we thank you so much for what you achieved on that day when it could have gone so very much worse than it did. Thank you.”

Prominent members of the Lincoln-Lancaster area, including Sheriff Terry Wagner, Lancaster County Engineer Pam Dingman, and Director of Lincoln-Lancaster County Emergency Management Jim Davidsaver also recounted their experiences and delivered their thanks.

“Your efforts ensure Nebraska will always be deserving of our state motto of ‘the good life,'” said Davidsaver.
