Lincoln Police were called to Popeye’s Chicken at 27th and Dan Avenue around noon on Friday, May 14th on a report of an assault. Officers spoke with an employee who stated a man, later identified as 34 year old Corey Francis, assaulted him. The victim said Francis had walked into the restaurant and began punching him. Francis then hit him in the head with a chair causing an injury that required staples. Francis then left the restaurant before police arrived.
Officers found Francis near North 26th Street and Northview Road. Officers identified themselves and ordered him to get on the ground. Francis refused to follow commands so officers deployed a taser. While taking him into custody, Francis started spitting on officers, kicking them in the shins and head-butted them. LFR took Francis to a hospital for evaluation and he again head-butted an officer. Both of the officers had minor injuries.
Francis was booked for felony 2nd degree assault, felony two counts of 3rd degree assault on a police officer and for resisting arrest.
