With Halloween around the corner, families are wondering about the safety of their children. Much has been said about the safety of candy, but what about the actual activity of trick-or-treating?
Jordan Darensbourg, a UScellular store manager, shared some tips with KLIN News.
“Smartphones have a variety of helpful safety features, such as a built-in flashlight, easy access to emergency numbers and contact lists for important numbers, and real-time location sharing,” said Darensbourg. “Older children and adults can easily have these in their pockets or purse in case it’s needed.”
Kids who don’t have smartphones can also stay safe, however. Darensbourg talked about the myriad of ways families can use other phones, devices, and programs to keep their children safe but also let them have fun.
“Safewise offers a list of the best location-tracking devices such as smart watches, wearable clip-ons, and Apple Air Tags,” said Darensbourg. “Families also can consider using screanless phones such as Relay to communicate reliably. So, children can safely have independence while giving parents peace of mind. Additionally, Life360 is among one of the most popular apps to track children. Parents can come together to track a group of friends as well.”
