Hot, dry and windy is the forecast for the weekend from the National Weather Service. In the latest summary NWS notes very high fire danger is forecast in northeast Nebraska between noon and 6 PM today.
Strong southerly winds are expected Sunday. Wind gusts of 30 to 45 mph are expected throughout the day. Higher gusts, over 50 mph, are possible in the late afternoon and evening.
Gusty winds, low relative humidity and dry fuels will produce very high or extreme fire danger in northeast Nebraska Sunday afternoon. A Fire Weather Watch has been issued for this region.
Scattered thunderstorms are possible Sunday evening and Sunday night. A couple of storms may be severe. The primary potential hazards should be damaging winds to 70 mph or quarter size hail.
