Two people have been taken into custody and a third is being sought after a pursuit involving a stolen car ended in a crash near I-80 and North 56th Street Monday night. Nebraska State Patrol spokesperson Cody Thomas tells KLIN News a trooper spotted the westbound Chevrolet Malibu around 8:00 and attempted a traffic stop near the Waverly interchange.

“The driver actually accelerated to over 100 miles an hour, which caused a pursuit,” Thomas says. The Malibu exited at North 56th Street, where the driver lost control near the bottom of the ramp and struck a pole. Thomas said the crash knocked out power to streetlights at the intersection.

All three occupants ran from the car, and troopers quickly took a 17-year-old boy into custody. “We had troopers, sheriff’s deputies, Lincoln police officers, all searching that area for quite some time,” Thomas says.

Thomas says the other two occupants were not located Monday night. Lincoln police took an 18-year-old man into custody around 6:45 a.m. Tuesday. Both were taken into custody and were cited for obstructing a police officer. Investigators believe the remaining person was driving the Malibu.

The investigation is ongoing.
