A Lincoln man has been found guilty of misdemeanor motor vehicle homicide in connection with a Lancaster County dump truck crash that killed a Waverly man last November.

10/11 Now reports that Justin Plugge, 45, was found guilty Monday, October 19. His sentencing is scheduled for December 11.

The November 20, 2025, collision occurred at North 162nd Street and Bluff Road, east of Waverly. According to the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, Plugge drove through a stop sign in a county Engineering Department dump truck, striking another vehicle.

The crash killed 86-year-old Fernando Ortiz of Waverly at the scene. His wife was hospitalized with severe injuries, according to KLIN’s original report.

Chief Deputy Ben Houchin told KLIN at the time that the dump truck was spreading gravel and that its driver failed to stop because of fog and did not see Ortiz’s vehicle. Houchin said Ortiz lived a short distance from the intersection.
