A new mural taking shape at City Impact near Lincoln’s Peter Pan Park is designed to reflect the organization’s work with children. Artist Seth Boggs began painting Thursday, with KLIN News there as he began bringing his spray paint creation to life.

Boggs said he wanted the design to reflect the urban setting and appeal to the children City Impact serves. The mural features two pigeon characters wearing clothes, accessories including a backpack, small pig characters and a book representing the organization’s reading program.

“Hopefully it brings a smile to people’s faces,” Boggs told KLIN News. “My hope for it is that it catches the eye in a positive way, and can really highlight what they do here, and the programs that they offer for the kids and everything.”

Boggs said painting in public creates opportunities to connect with people who will see the artwork regularly. During a previous project in Utica, residents stopped by daily to check his progress and talk with him.

Those conversations can help build a sense of community ownership, he said. “Because ultimately, this is their artwork. They’re going to be living with it.”
