The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 60-year-old Lincoln man after investigators say they found a large amount child sexual abuse material this week. Chief Deputy Ben Houchin says the investigation began October 5th after a woman reported finding the material belonging to her husband.
It was discovered in a backpack at Branched Oak Lake, where the man had been staying in a camper. Investigators obtained a search warrant and seized thumb drives and a tablet. “There was a lot of material, and so the investigation is continuing on to determine where he got it all and if any other crimes were committed.”
The sheriff’s office arrested Timothy Topol on Tuesday. Houchin says Topol admitted during an interview that he possessed the material and had downloaded it from the internet. Topol was booked into the Lancaster County Adult Detention Facility on a charge of possession of child sexual abuse material, a Class 2A felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison.
Houchin says investigators are still determining how Topol obtained the material and whether it was shared with anyone else. Investigators believe Topil had downloaded the material off the internet for the past 10 to 15 years.
