The Lincoln Police Department is highlighting domestic violence resources during October’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month, emphasizing the need for continued public awareness and support for survivors.

LPD spokesperson Erika Thomas says the department’s Victim Assistance Unit has helped 864 people so far in 2026, including 395 domestic violence survivors and 402 stalking victims. Advocates have also assisted with 893 protection orders, while 430 protection order violations have been reported this year.

Thomas says the department’s Special Victims Unit works on domestic violence cases daily, with a dedicated coordinator and investigator assigned to the issue.  “Our victim assistance unit will interact with you whether there’s a crime involved or not,” Thomas says. “You can walk in the door and request to speak with them without law enforcement being involved at all.”

Thomas says the department partners with local organizations and provides a list of resources on its website to help people find assistance before situations escalate. She encourages residents to keep the conversation going throughout the year so survivors know where to turn when they need help.
