The Lincoln Airport is bringing a classic baseball movie to the big screen on September 18 with a free outdoor showing of The Sandlot. Airport spokesperson Rachel Barth says guests can begin arriving around 6 p.m., with the movie starting once it gets dark.
The movie will be shown on the side of one of the airport’s old Cold War hangars. Families can watch from their vehicles or bring blankets, chairs or inflatable mattresses. An FM transmitter will allow people to listen to the movie from their cars, while speakers will be available for those sitting outside.
Food trucks and vendors will also be on hand throughout the evening. Barth says attendees are encouraged to bring a package of diapers or wipes to support the Junior League of Lincoln Diaper Bank.
“Any size diaper, any wipes, they’re just very thankful for any donation,” Barth said. “Those go to families in our community that need the help.” Barth says tickets are free, but registration through Eventbrite is encouraged so the airport can estimate attendance and help food trucks prepare for the crowd.
She also recommends bringing bug spray. “It’s just such a fun event and it’s free,” Barth said. “Bring the neighbors, bring grandparents, and watch a movie under the stars at the airport.”
