The Lincoln Board of Education has approved an agreement adding two school resource officers to the ones already assigned to Lincoln Public Schools. The district currently has 14 SROs assigned to its middle and high schools.
LPS said the two additional officers will provide coverage when regularly assigned officers are absent and allow more flexibility for school events and other needs outside normal working hours. The annual Safe and Successful Kids agreement between LPS and the City of Lincoln also provides a threat-assessment officer assigned to the district.
School resource officers work with students and staff, help coordinate communication between LPS and the Lincoln Police Department and exercise police authority when a situation requires law-enforcement action.
