Space, science and imagination will come together Saturday night at Branched Oak Observatory near Raymond. The observatory is hosting its first annual AstroCon 2026 from 6 to 11 p.m. August 15.
The event will feature Nebraska astronaut Clayton Anderson, who will be on hand from 6 to 8 p.m. for a special book signing. Anderson spent more than 160 days in space during his NASA career. Legendary comic artist Bob Hall will also attend from 6 to 9 p.m., creating live quick sketches for visitors.
The event will also highlight America’s fascination with space during the 1950s and 1960s, with vintage Space Age artifacts and memorabilia on display. That includes rocket-themed pedal cars provided by the Museum of American Speed.
Visitors can take part in space-themed crafts and STEM activities, meet “Mike the Meteorite” and participate in a cosplay costume contest. Weather permitting, the observatory’s telescopes will be available for nighttime viewing and astronomy and a food truck will also be on site.
